This study investigates teachers’ perceptions of the cultural literacy content related to Sidoarjo in the Wonderful Insight English textbook. The study was motivated by the Merdeka Curriculum, which promotes global competence while preserving students’ cultural identity through local culture integration. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with three English teachers at SMPN 1 Sukodono, Sidoarjo, and analyzed thematically. The findings showed that teachers held favorable perceptions because the textbook integrates local cultural elements, such as lontong kupang, petis, and udeng pacul gowang. They considered the content relevant to students’ experiences and effective in fostering cultural awareness while supporting English learning. However, teachers also faced challenges in explaining unfamiliar traditions and required additional contextual resources. Overall, integrating local culture into English textbooks strengthens cultural identity, enhances student engagement, and supports the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.
