Development of an Age-Based Watering System for Melons Integrating Drip Hydroponics and Water Flowmeters for Flow Control

Hydroponic melon cultivation requires precise irrigation management, as improper nutrient application reduces yield and quality. Conventional systems are inefficient and labor-intensive. This study developed an IoT-based smart drip irrigation system using ESP32 to automatically regulate water flow based on plant age (DAP). Integrated with Telegram for real-time monitoring and remote control, the system uses a flowmeter sensor to control water volume and a soil moisture sensor to monitor growing media conditions. Test results show high precision with a maximum error of 10%, well within the safe limit. The moisture sensor effectively distinguishes saturated from dry soil, enabling optimal scheduling. This innovative solution allows remote field monitoring, reduces labor, minimizes water waste, and ultimately enhances productivity and efficiency in melon cultivation.
