Abstract

The evaporator is a critical component in HVAC systems that functions as a heat exchange medium. The quality of brazed joints significantly affects the strength and leak tightness of the system. This study aims to analyze the effect of material variation on brazed joint quality through hydrostatic and tensile testing. The material combinations include copper–aluminum, copper–brass, brass–aluminum, copper–copper, aluminum–aluminum, and brass–brass. Hydrostatic testing was conducted to detect leakage, while tensile testing was performed to determine ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and elongation. The results show that homogeneous joints exhibit the best performance without leakage and higher strength, while dissimilar joints tend to leak and have lower strength. The highest UTS was found in copper–copper at 256.2 MPa with 18.7% elongation, while the lowest was in brass–aluminum at 76.8 MPa with 3.1% elongation.
