An Analysis of Digital Literacy Skills of Elementary School Students

Abstract

Digital literacy is an essential competence for elementary school students in the digital era, yet their ability to access, evaluate, and integrate information is still developing. This study aims to analyze students’ digital literacy skills at SD Muhammadiyah 3 Ikrom based on Paul Gilster’s four indicators: internet searching, hypertextual navigation, content evaluation, and knowledge assembly. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving three fifth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings indicate that students possess basic operational skills in using digital technology, particularly in searching for information and navigating digital sources. However, their ability to evaluate information credibility and integrate knowledge from multiple sources remains limited, highlighting the need for more structured instructional strategies.
