Abstract

Autism is a neurological development disorder characterized by personal, social, and academic disorders. In DSM V (Diagnostic And Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder Fifth Edition), autistic children or what is called Autism Spectrum Disorder are diagnosed as having a characteristic disorder in social communication and social interaction accompanied by excessive behavior, limited interest and having a disruption in social reciprocity. One of the challenges faced by children with autism is their ability to develop their social-emotional skills. Children on the autism spectrum face complex challenges in their developmental aspects. The educational approaches used in schools, particularly the learning materials employed in both special schools and inclusive settings, are often not optimally designed to accommodate the needs of children with autism.
