This study examines teachers’ obstacles in teaching Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and the factors behind students’ indifference at SMK Anugrah Ilmu Sidoarjo using a qualitative phenomenological approach through observation and interviews. The findings show that IRE learning is hindered by limited instructional time, less varied teaching methods, minimal use of learning media, low student motivation, and family and social influences. Vocational students tend to prioritize vocational subjects they see as more relevant to employment, causing IRE to receive less attention and resulting in low student engagement. This perception is reinforced by students’ family and community backgrounds, where religious values are often not a daily priority.
