Abstract

This study aims to design and improve a 0.33 HP single-phase electric motor-driven cassava chip cutting machine, focusing on four aspects: machine design, shaft component mechanical calculations, frame force simulation, and blade tilt modification. The blade tilt modification enhances the slicing effect, reducing broken slices. Mechanical calculations determine the shaft's strength under rotational loads, while frame force simulation evaluates the safety factor, ensuring the frame can withstand dynamic and static loads without deformation. The results show an efficient and safe design, prioritizing operator safety and hygiene, though not including all necessary manufacturing drawings. Simulation results indicate a maximum deformation of 8.5901e-6 m, equivalent stress of 56 MPa, equivalent elastic strain of 9.9168e-6 m/m, a maximum safety factor of 15, and a minimum shaft diameter of 22.5 mm.
