Abstract

The increasing amount of used clothing waste has encouraged the use of ash from combustion as an alternative material for concrete. This study analyzed the effect of cotton clothing ash as a substitute for fine aggregate with variations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, as well as compressive strength tests at the age of 7–28 days. Tests included the physical characteristics of the material and analysis compared to concrete quality standards. The results showed that the ash was fine-grained and affected cement hydration, workability, and concrete specific gravity. High substitution decreased the compressive strength, but low levels still met the requirements for non-structural concrete. Used clothing ash has the potential to be used as an environmentally friendly alternative with certain substitution limits to reduce textile waste.
