Abstract

Excessively long material movement distances and alternating flows between workstations are signs of an inefficient production facility layout, which a paint manufacturing company must address. As a result, production process efficiency decreases and material movement time increases. This study aims to rearrange the production facility layout to improve material flow and efficiency. The methods used are Activity Relation Chart (ARC) to analyze the proximity between workstations and Blocplan to develop optimal layout alternatives. The suggested layout reduces the overall material transportation distance from 239 meters to 90 meters, according to the study results. The resulting material movement efficiency reaches 62.34%. Thus, the application of ARC and Blocplan methods is proven effective in improving the efficiency of production facility layout.
