Abstract

These studies aims to determine how role playing effects the improvement of Arabic speaking skills (maharah kalam) of grade X students at Muhammadiyah 2 High School in Sidoarjo. The problem addressed in this study stems from the low level of students’ ability to communicate actively and confidently in spoken Arabic. The method used is a quantitative approach with one group pretest-posttets eksperimental design. The research sample consisted of 30 students who were given oral tests before and after the application of role playing techniques. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test. The result showed an increase in the average score from 51.97 on the pretest to 73.27 on the posttest, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0,.05). These findings indicate that role playing techniques have a significant effect on improving students’ Arabic speaking skills (maharah kalam).
